The liver is a key player in the digestive system. It produces enzymes and proteins that breaks down food, fights infections and eliminates bacteria in your system with the help of bile. When unhealthy food is consumed, it strains the liver which hinders its workings and this can in turn cause serious diseases in the body such as Hepatitis C, Jaundice, Fatigue, Diarrhoea and more.

Good foods for the liver include citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit. These fruits have high contents of antioxidants and vitamin C which assists the liver in flushing out carcinogens and toxins. Beets are famously known as a remedy food for many blood complications, which is why it is very beneficial for the liver. As well as this, green vegetables and walnuts break down toxins in the body thus aiding the liver.
ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION AND MEDICATION
It is important to monitor and reduce alcohol consumption in order to benefit the liver. Alcohol damages liver cells and overconsumption will not only reduce the livers efficiency but it will also further worsen your health because whilst the liver is working on breaking down the alcohol and repairing itself, toxins from other foods will attack your body. Research also shows that some antipsychotic drugs, heart drugs, hormone related drugs and pain relievers can also threaten the mechanisms of the liver.

A doctors will mostly conduct liver function tests before prescribing any of the above mentioned types of medicines. Liver function tests are numerous tests aimed to determine the health of the liver by measuring the enzyme production and bilirubin levels in blood. Many diseases are caused by impurity of blood so it is important that the liver is workings well and kept in check so that diseases such as the above can be avoided.
Diseases such as hepatitis C can prove to be fatal if left untreated. Furthermore, liver problems can also cause mental health problems amongst other illnesses. A lack or excess of certain enzymes do not always mean that there is danger within the liver. It is always essential that a doctor is consulted in order to further study any liver function test results so that any dangers can be highlighted and a suitable cause of action can be planned in order to treat any issues.
Liver health is often overlooked because people know little about the livers uses and significance. The consumption of non-organic, toxin laden food, alcohol and painkillers can also prove to be dangerous for your health overall. Even though the liver can regrow in case of damage, it is better to take precautions rather than suffering from liver diseases.
